Ribble Valley Liberal Democrats have launched a petition to reverse the cuts to police numbers locally in Ribble Valley and in Lancashire in general.
Police numbers, including the number of armed police officers, have fallen sharply under Theresa May’s watch first as Home Secretary between 2010 and 2016 and then as Prime Minister. In Lancashire, the Police Federation are predicting that the number of officers will have fallen from 3,611 officers in 2010 to 1,700 by 2020.
Cllr. Allan Knox said, “Cuts have consequences as can be seen by hundreds of police officers being taken off the streets and local crime dramatically increasing as police do not have the necessary resources to investigate.
"Conservative cuts meant that last year violent crimes actually increased, reversing a normally declining trend.
"In the Ribble Valley, last year all crime went up by over 13% while across all of Lancashire violent crime against the person was up by 20%."
This is why we are launching our petition calling on the Home Secretary to reverse the cuts.
